May Virtual Summer Camp Session 1

From May 18- May 29, Atlanta Music Education will host classes everyday at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm. Our teachers have put together some great classes so kids have the opportunity to learn a wide range about music and performing. Classes will be 45 minutes long and the will have a sequential lesson plan.

This is a “pay what you can” class program but we do ask families consider a donation of $10 per class per student to support our performing artist teachers.

Classes will be taught on Zoom. Your teacher will send their personal meeting ID once you register for their class.

Monday Classes

MONDAY 10:00 AM – Ms. Bryn’s Class Description: Let’s COME TOGETHER and FEEL FINE for some Beatles Sing Alongs with Ms. Bryn, Monday mornings at 10am! Just bring yourself and your favorite Beatle’s song in mind. We will sing their songs together, talk about this legendary band, and LET IT BE.

Ms. Bryn Holdsworth is an operatic soprano with a huge passion for all types of music! She holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Manhattan School of Music in New York City and has performed all over the world since graduating. She has performed in operas with The Glimmerglass Festival, Des Moines Metro Opera, the Royal Opera at the Château de Versailles, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall to name a few.

Ms. Bryn’s students can be found in off-broadway performances today and even composing full studio albums.

MONDAY 2:00 PM – Mr. Jacob’s Class Description: Looking for a fun and engaging way to strengthen your knowledge about collaboration and theatre? Creative Drama and Theatre Games with local Atlanta theatre artist Mr. Jacob is the perfect class for you! In this master class you will learn some of the most fundamental rules of of theatre, like always “saying yes”, through energetic exercises and games as we laugh and play together. Designed for the young (and young at heart), this class is open to all ages and abilities.

Mr. Jacob Lavoie is an Atlanta, GA based maker, performance artist, and educator born and raised in Nashua, New Hampshire. Mr. Jacob graduated Summa Cum Laude from Keene State College with a B.A. in Theatre and Dance, dual concentrations in Dance: Choreography and Performance and Theatre Arts: Directing. His artistic research has been presented at Keene State College’s Academic Excellence Conference twice: once in the form of an original modern dance work and the other through his direction of a short play by James Still. In May 2018 Mr. Jacob received the Julia McHale Redfern Memorial Prize for Excellence in the performing arts.

As an educator Mr. Jacob actively utilizes a wide variety of vocabulary and instructional practices in rehearsals and the classroom. He LOVES teaching musical theatre dance to all ages. The style allows him and the students to really break out of our shells and just have fun while being a little silly sometimes. 

MONDAY 4:00 PM – Mr. Nathan’s Class Description: Here’s the description: In this masterclass, we will learn how to play your favorite Disney songs on piano just by using our ears and voices. No books! No sheet music! Just our ears, voices, and pianos! This class is designed to help you learn songs by ear through the lens of learning Disney songs! By the time you leave the class, we hope that you can start learning your favorite songs by ear! Join us!

Mr. Nathan Holmes, baritone, was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia. Nathan has done music in some form for his entire life. Mr. Nathan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Mercer University. He has performed many roles in both disciplines of musical theatre and opera with companies such as Mercer University Opera, Harrower Summer Opera and Decatur High School Theatre. Some of career highlights include roles in musical theatre like Nathan Detroit (Guys & Dolls), Lewis (Pippin) and Corny Collins (Hairspray). His favorite operatic roles include The Fox (The Trial of Goldilocks, children’s opera), Guglielmo (Mozart’s Così fan tutte), and Giuseppe (Gilbert & Sullivsan’s The Gondoliers.)

Mr. Nathan’s background in teaching began with 3 years at Zoo Atlanta teaching summer camp and classes. He has also worked as a camp counselor for Atlanta Young Singers (AYS), working with their younger and adolescent aged children. In addition to his counselor duties, he has also worked with some of the younger singers with AYS in their sight-reading and theory abilities at their “Workbook Sessions.


Tuesday Classes

TUESDAY 10:00 AM – Ms. Jen’s Class Description: Looking to get your child involved in a fun and lively environment to take their first steps to ballet and modern movement? This class is the perfect way to start! This class is designed to teach the dancers movement patterning, coordination, and rhythm in a method outside of the traditional class method. Dancers will learn basic stretches, along with ballet and modern dance principles, while ending with an exciting choreography! Please bring a scarf, towel, or bandana to explore with!

Ms. Jenn Klammer is a Miami native choreographer, dancer, and artist, currently residing in Atlanta, GA. She is a graduate from the University of Florida with a BFA Degree in Dance, focusing on education, composition, and performance. Jenn began her training with classical ballet at the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, and danced with their Pre-Professional Program while pursuing a dance major for high school at Miami Arts Charter, where she was exposed to modern and jazz techniques. Ms. Jenn has performed in works globally, including the Florence Dance Festival in Florence Italy, the Big River Dance Festival, Regional and National High School Dance Festivals, and other performances in her community. 

While in Atlanta, Ms. Jenn was a choreographer for the 2019/20 season for the Palette Project, performed in the premiere edition of Excuse the Art performance series curated by Fly on a Wall, and in other small projects across the community, mainly in collaborative processes. Currently, she is a dance instructor at Druid Hills Dance Center, Legacy Dance Centre, and The Atlanta Dance Academy (TADA). She is in progress for a new work on a digital format with the Beacon Dance Festival.

TUESDAY 2:00 PM – Mr. Jacob’s Class Description: “Come Alive” in this Greatest Showman inspired dance class with Mr. Jacob! Together we will learn some show stopping moves as we sing along to our favorite songs from the hit movie, The Greatest Showman, in this all ages and all levels broadway jazz style dance class. Wear loose fitting clothes and comfortable shoes and get ready to put on “The Greatest Show” all from the comfort of your own home!

TUESDAY 4:00 PM – Ms. Bryn’s Class Description: Do you see your name in lights? Wanting to sing your favorite song from your favorite broadway show? Bring yourself, the lyrics to the song you’ve chosen, and let’s get you broadway ready. Ms. Bryn herself has years of experience in auditioning for shows and singing on stages all over the world. We will dive into character work and work on singing your song in the most expressive, original way with Ms. Bryn!

Wednesday Classes

WEDNESDAY 10:00 AM (5 years and Under) – Ms. Laura’s Class Description: Join Ms. Laura who teaches music at HTPP Preschool for songs, story time & and introduction to the different types of notes. Materials needed for maximum enjoyment are a smiling face, a singing voice, 2 paper plates and 2 items to keep a steady beat with-maybe a wooden spoon and spatula.

Ms. Laura Posey McMahan, a converted Georgian originally from Southern Maryland, teaches Masterclasses, piano and voice through our sister studio in Oakhurst & loves collaborating to help with special Studio Events at AME. She is also the Music & Globetotting teacher at Holy Trinity Parish Preschool.

Ms. Laura graduated from Georgia Southern with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Vocal Performance. She has sung with The Augusta Opera, the Michael O’Neal Singers, various choirs allowing her to tour Europe, debut at Carnegie Hall & is a founding member of the Oakhurst Community Choir. Ms. Laura has a deep love of music that she hopes is contagious to her students. Her laid back approach to teaching is to make lessons fun in order to excite the student about learning. She celebrates all genres of music and loves to encourage her students to request songs they enjoy to learn. 

WEDNESDAY 2:00 PM – Mr. Jacob’s Class Description: Performers often hold a lot of tension before a big performance but this master class will guide students through a unique flow of yoga, meditation, strengthening, and breathing exercises with one goal in mind: relax to energize. Join Mr. Jacob, a professional dancer, stretch coach, and all around relaxation enthusiast for this unique master class designed to help performers of all ages and abilities understand the benefits of relaxing, stretching, and strengthening their bodies!

WENDESDAY 4:00 PM – Ms. Hila’s Class Description: Want to learn how to sing and perform like a princess? Here’s your chance!
We will discuss singing basics and performance practices, have individual solos, and group sing-a- longs. For this 2 week class we will make sure everyone gets a boost of confidence when they sing their favorite Disney song. No music experience required and wearing a tiara is strongly encouraged 🙂 Playlist and lyrics will be sent out ahead of time.

Ms. Hila Brod, originally from Maryland, moved to Atlanta to study her Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Georgia State University.With the GSU Opera, Ms. Hila performed challenging Mozart roles such as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.  She also participated in several partial roles such as Susanna from Le nozze di Figaro, Clorinda from La cenerentola, and Phyllis from Iolante. Ms. Hila has traveled around the world performing opera in various summer festivals. She has sung the roles Monica from The Medium in Greece, Despina from Cosi fan tutte in Vermont, and Adina from The elixir of Love in Austria. 

She loves teaching beginner and intermediate piano students of all ages and incorporating her musical experience on and off stage to her unique lesson plans. In her years of being a music educator, Ms. Hila’s students have made great accomplishments in their school auditions, recitals and All State chorus. 


Thursday Classes

THURSDAY 10:00 AM (5 years and under) – Ms. Jen’s Class Description: The Disney film “Frozen” has been a crowd favorite these past years, so why not design a creative class from its iconic soundtrack! Dancers will be led through a series of movement exercises, stretches, and choreography with its most popular songs, ending in a massive dance party to its greatest hit of all. Feel free to dress up in your favorite princess attire and get the whole family involved!

Friday Classes

FRIDAY 10:00 AM – Ms. Bukie’s Class Description: Being a performing artist is fun, but it isn’t always easy- sometimes, it can be downright stressful! How can we combat all the anxiety and tension? In class, we’ll explore our mind-body connections and learn strategies to infuse ease into our practice, auditions, and performances. Come in comfortable, movable clothes and an open mind and heart. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join.

Ms. Ibukun (Bukie) Babalola is a Nigerian-American soprano. Ms. Bukie is an alumna of The University of Alabama where she studied with Dr. Susan Williams and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance. She was a principal performer with The University of Alabama Opera Theatre, and highlights from her time with this company include performances as Greta Fiorentino in Street Scene, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, The Lady Saphir in Patience, and the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel.

Her students enjoy having dance parties and musical theatre sing alongs with her. The performance confidence Ms. Bukie radiates always helps her students grow and shine in their performance abilities. 

FRIDAY 2:00 PM – Mr. Jacob’s Class Description: Interested in learning how some of you favorite puppets (or muppets) like Kermit or Big Bird come to life? Or maybe you are interested in making your own? Join Mr. Jacob in this introductory puppetry class and allow your imagination bloom as you create your own persona, share stories, and learn some basic puppetry skills. By the end of this master class we will even put on our own mini puppet show and show off our new puppet friends via zoom!

FRIDAY 4:00 PM (Special Class Ages 5 and under) – Ms. Bryn’s Class Description: This relaxing evening wind down with Ms. Bryn is enjoyable for parents and kids alike, looking to the healing and peaceful refuge that music can bring. Come join Ms. Bryn Fridays at 4pm as she sings and softly strums her ukulele from classical songs, to folk songs, to timeless lullabies. Feel free to sing along, snuggle on the couch, or rest those eyes. Sweetest dreams!
